He lifted me up

Through the years of my toil, I tasted this life’s bitter pill
as by night I’d toss and turn, ‘ere my soul at last was well.

Though I stood calling, I still seemed so alone;
and though I knelt praying, my life was so undone.

I watched as murky mists did part and peered with pounding heart
to see the king, alight the path and breach the fallen rampart.
Though the tides pushed back, He bade me, walk the track:
o’er the waves, my homeward tack, to cast aside my leaden sack.

Though I’ve tried, reasoning, I have found no sense;
but by His call heeding, I am recompensed.

Waves still tried to take me down, so surely I’d have drowned
but looking up, at last I found, hope that seeks a royal crown.
Firm against the tempest flare, He prevails as none compare;
to keep us, from here to there, on this road he cares to share.

Now I see the distant shore, thence my soul be daily drawn
to my savior’s faithful call - amid that great, assembled roar.

Though I’ve sighed, stumbled, I never felt alone,
for the whispers, of my King, will surely lead me home.

The greater fight

A poem about life's struggles and the nature of that battle, which indeed is more than a battle - its a war. We are fighting beyond issues and everyday inconveniences, because our fight is about eternal things. It is not against flesh and blood, but principalities and powers. Yet, the key to that fight is ourselves - or as Moody put it, "I have had more trouble with myself than anyone else".

Arise shine

Dark, somber, brooding moonlight,
swirling clouds, forbidding sky.
Deep, eerie shadows, fade the sight
declare the end in cold wind’s sigh
A grey pallid moon, draws her veils
cloak of darkness stained by blood
through dark night, she silently sails
turns stone to clay and clay to mud.

So melts this day into endless night,
the globe fades, falters, splutters, dies:
Fragments fall from that great light,
that so enlightened each human fire.
Age of reason, lost in hopeless thought
unreasoned thus, man’s noblest hours
clouds rise to darken burning shores
where men fought the darkest powers.

In fading shadows of this twilight,
new light arise, eclipse this fading dark
this new day come, no more the night
amid trumpet sound, herald angels hark.
Passing night, yields crimson dawn
the church triumphant, come to her hour
sadness melts, no more to mourn
lo’ warrior bride, bright sword drawn

Arise shine, light arise, scatters night.
Raising sword she marks the hour,
battle lines thus drawn, dark and light
amid great shouts, bright banners high,
descends that vast, dread human plain
to the final battle: the end is near
The sun held high against falling rain
her King rides out, to rampant cheer …

In This Life

In This Life,
You'll have days of bright and blue
with good friends and laughter....enough to see you through.

In This Life,
There will be misery and doubt
things you scratch your head at....and just can't figure out.

In This Life,
You'll have dreams that reach the sky
and passion to move you.... until the day you die.

In This Life,
There will be days of pain and loss
and times when your only comfort is The Man upon The Cross.

In This Life,
You'll imagine what could be
and think the world is yours for all eternity.

In This Life,
There are trials you must face
and days when the world leaves you lost without a trace.

In This Life,
We are called to help the poor
to leave the cushy comfort that rests behind our door.

In This Life,
You’ll be astounded at how quickly years go by
and look back at memories that often make you cry.
In This Life,
You'll taste both victory and defeat
and make mistakes that wisdom won't allow you to repeat.

In This Life,
You'll find answers to the questions you hold dear
and live for Him who'll take away your worries and your fear.
