Breakthough series 2: God is my rock

David was a man of integrity: despite many chances to kill Saul, he refused and though betrayed by his countrymen, he never hit back.

His 'weakness' was his strength, for his contemplative heart made him a statesman and peacemaker.

That was in stark contrast to his predecessor.

He was never Plan B and Saul was never Plan A gone wrong.

God gave Israel what they wanted: a caution to watch what you ask for.

As often happens in life, Saul's physical prowess met their approval. But the unassuming shepherd met God’s approval.

Yet he used Saul to prepare David for kingship, the way he uses our struggles to prepare our willing hearts for greater things.

The factual records still see externalities, but the Psalms reveal his heart.

Thus, instead of hiding behind fixed ramparts he carried divine defenses in his heart and like a well rooted tree, relied on a deeper, hidden reservoir.

In the 6 day war, Arabs used heavily fortified bases and the Israelis used small, nimble WW2 jeeps to get under their guns and neutralize them.

David was like that. I will reveal more.
