Until then 'divine' favor relied on high maintenance rituals, mantras and formulas.
But as the misty veil parted for Abraham, he saw beyond his many misgivings to a faith vested in the idea that God offered himself for us.
A lot of our practices have a pagan undercurrent. Thus, we tithe for blessing, pray for favor or paint ourselves into dark corners of guilt or inadequacy.
The veiling of the mind (2 Cor 3) obscures what lies beyond our religious practice, but prefers to fearfully shiver behind appearances and works.
Until we get what we got when Jesus died, we will always strive for acceptance, blessing and approval. We need to get what Abraham got.
Root your faith in him and trust in what he did for you to ensure your acceptance before God, and you will find peace, joy, hope and life.
