My youngest son, who loves to hear the hills resound to his voice, asked me, "When I speak, do my words continue to reverberate through space and will my echo be heard by someone in the future?"
Arguably a vibration of any kind is perpetual, although it reduces to an infinitely small level as it passes through various media. Others would argue that it stops altogether. In a helicopter blade, the tip has the furthest to travel per unit of time and so goes very fast, but the hub is not as fast as it only has a moderate distance to travel in the same time. Towards the absolute center it rotates ever slower, to become infinitely slow - yet it must still move at the center else the center would separate from the rest of the blade. Maybe sound also continues to reverberate infinetely and maybe our words do resound into the future.
Well, so much for science. What I do know is that our words and actions will certainly reverberate through successive generations. We will impact those who follow us, be it positevely or negatively. Thus the words of the ancients still stir hearts and echo from the pages of scripture to this day. Heaven and earth may pass away but God's word will never end.
We may have crowded out His voice and the vibrations may be infinitely small - but if we listen for His still, small voice it is still there and it will still speak life into death and form into voids.
