I saw the Queen. Actually I did stand 15 feet from her, but what I mean is I saw the movie, in which she was played by Helen Mirren. Great acting, but not the queen. Like her, her words, still not her.
I once met Nelson Mandela - well it looked like him, stood the height, wore the clothes, but wasn't him - it was a wax model.
There is no substitute for reality.
We want to look the part for God, for since Adam fell we have all needed something to compensate for our nakedness. But we can go to church, follow a code of rules and laws, apply intense practices, whatever - and still not reach reality. God does not want our trappings, He wants to know us, just as we, in turn, need to know God more than we know about God.
