Now let’s be controversial. All things are possible
to God - I don't agree. He is unlimited – nope. He is a mighty God – that’s
moot. Okay, He is omnipresent - that is as debatable.
It is “impossible” for God to violate His
own principles, break His own laws, do evil, tempt us or do us harm. His purity
is beyond human comprehension. Stomping on the devil was certainly possible to
God, but it would have violated His integrity without the cross.
What
He does for people is generally only
possible through people, in terms of translating His heart into practical
and tangible love. We are His hands and feet, though which His unseen heartbeat
and headship are revealed.
As for mighty? Well He generally doesn’t
reveal Himself that way. Indeed, Christ was the epitome of weakness on the
cross, but the legal precedents set there removed the keys of death and hell
and shook its foundations. Actually, most of the time, He is a still small
voice, for as in creation it is His Word that transforms us.
So what about
Omnipresence? Well there is a strange phenomenon in the way He operates. He
establishes things, winds them up and lets them run, with minimal further
intervention – as He did for the universe, the church and the family. Thus, if
omnipresence means He is actively involved in every event that takes place
under the sun, I don’t see it.
