From a distance the world looks blue and green and snow capped mountains white. God is watching us, from a distance ~ song by Bette Midler.
God has also watched us from a distance .... … when He was suspended a few feet from the ground on a brutal and unforgiving tree.
There He was cursed for us so that we may go free. From His fragile perspective He gazed out across the seas of humanity and wept for our sins, then bore them all away in His death. His Father observed from an even greater distance and sighed, “I have seen the travail of my beloved Son and I am satisfied, it is enough, the work of salvation is done”.
That one, significant act of grace, bridged the gulf between God and men, tore down the veil that separated us and gave us the hope of eternal salvation. Now sadly, the world looks on from a distance, whilst, like a silent stone monument on a busy street corner, that terrible moment becomes a passing fancy in the throb and heave of life and the indifference of our hearts.
