Birthing wind series 3: Pain in vain

A phantom pregnancy can be a thankless toil for seemingly nothing.

Many fall apart over small setbacks, where others plod through years of struggle: but we hardly know it, because it’s between them and God.

Mother Teresa spoke of the long silences of God before she broke through in her long journey. All the greats of history had that.

For many it is a hard slog, but David eventually said, “my cup runs over”, in contrast to years where his cup never filled.

He rose up time and time again, only to be pushed back.

Their cries were echoed by Sarah, who yearned for a son so she could crown her love for Abraham and feel fulfilled as a woman.

I identify with her and the cry to be fruitful in my faith, to be fulfilled, to see what a wise man once said would take a life-time to prove.

As happened to Sarah, one day the great leveler will set it right and they who were without child will rejoice more than she who had (Gal 4:27).

Isaiah 66:9 gives hope to the spiritually barren: “Shall I bring you to the birth and not deliver. Pain is for a while, then comes joy for a child is born”.
